CHICAGO (AP) – Homeland Security Department says immigrants and customs enforcement officers fired and killed the suspect Chicago suburbs Friday after the suspect attempted to drive a police officer to avoid an arrest, dragging one of them in.
The department said in a news release that officers were trying to arrest a man who had a history of reckless driving.
The department said the man refused an order from the officer and instead drove his car. One of the ice officers was hit and dragged into the car. The department said the officer felt a threat to his life and fired fire.
Ice said both the officer and the subject were taken to a local hospital where the suspect was declared dead.
“We pray for the prompt recovery of law enforcement officers. He was trained, used appropriate force and properly enforced the law to protect public and law enforcement,” Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
Ice says the shooting took place outside Franklin Park, about 18 miles west of Chicago.
Filming comes as the ice is less than a week. Immigration Enforcement Project in Chicago It was called “Midway Blitz.”
McLaughlin said it would “encourage illegal aliens to viral social media videos and activists to resist law enforcement.”
