It’d Be Such An Honor

-

Eiza González got a big endorsement from Natalie Portman to play the titled role in the film adaptation of the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

While promoting her latest film, Ash, González appeared on E! News’ The Rundown, where host Erin Lim said she was fan-casting her as Evelyn Hugo.

“I love the writer,” González said while revealing she was online pen pals with Reid before Evelyn Hugo. “We followed each other [on social media] and she would send me all her new books ahead of time, which I was such a fan of. I love Taylor, she’s so talented.”

González said she loved that book and found it to be “incredible,” saying it was “the biggest honor” that fans are envisioning her for that role.

The Baby Driver alum said that while filming The Fountain of Youth, co-star Natalie Portman told her, “I can’t think of anyone else to do Evelyn Hugo.”

“I was like, ‘Natalie Portman is saying that to me,’” González said. “I don’t know if I’ll ever get it. It’d be such an honor. And I don’t even know what’s happening with that project. I love the book. I love all her stuff. I’m a huge fun.”

González also mentioned that she thinks the creators “did such an amazing job” with the film adaptation of Reid’s novel Daisy Jones & the Six, which starred Riley Keough in the titled role.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo tells the story of a fictional old Hollywood star giving a final interview to unknown journalist Monique Grant.

Deadline reported last month that Maggie Betts was set to direct the Netflix film adaptation. Betts will co-write the script with Liz Tigelaar, and Liza Chasin will produce for 3Dot Productions and Brad Mendelsohn for Circle Management + Production.
