EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-winner Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl), Michael Rapaport (Atypical) and Saturday Night Live veteran Laraine Newman have been announced for the cast of Andy Palmer’s coming-of-age sports drama Last Shot.
They will be joined by Dylan Friedman (Marshmallow), Johnny Simmons (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and former two-time NBA All-Star Baron Davis. Viral country music sensation Lil Man J also has a key supporting role and will write an original song for the soundtrack
Currently in production, Last Shot is billed as an emotional coming-of-age sports drama set against the backdrop of Nashville’s elite youth basketball scene.
The story follows 12-year-old basketball prodigy Caden Isaacs (Friedman) as he faces grief, identity issues, and high expectations. After the sudden death of his father and amid a strained relationship with his previously absent mother, the two must come to terms with their past and give their future one last shot
A joint project between Hemlock Circle Productions and Liston James Productions, the producers are Pressly, Warner Davis, Todd Friedman and Kelly Brown.
Pressly first worked with Friedman, Davis and director Andy Palmer on The Re-Education of Molly Singer which debuted in the top ten on Netflix.
“My producing partner, Kelly Brown, and I had an amazing experience producing Last Shot with Warner and Todd. It was a pleasure to be able to work with them and Andy Palmer again,” said Pressly.
“Couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with on my first film produced by my company Liston James productions. We had an incredible crew and cast and Kelly and I can’t wait to work with them again.”
Hemlock Circle producer Friedman said Last Shot was more than “just” a sports story.
“It’s about family, resilience, and finding hope in unexpected places,” he said. “We’re proud of the team we’ve assembled and can’t wait for audiences to connect with this story and these characters.”
Hemlock Circle recently released Marshmallow, a horror sci-fi feature directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio, which will be featured at this year’s FrightFest in the UK.
In addition to Last Shot, Hemlock Circle produced the action-comedy film Bad Man, set to release this Fall, starring Sean William Scott, Rob Riggle, and Johnny Simmons. With DelPurgatorio, the company is also working on the upcoming Mal Carne, a thriller set in the culinary world.
