US entertainment company Disney has announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will be returning into the air after halting the talk show host following the threat from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair, and comments the host made about the murderer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Announced Monday’s decision, ABC’s parent company said the show had returned to the air on Tuesday and suspended production of the late-night comedy show “to avoid further inflaming the tense situation in our country’s emotional moments.”

Kimmel’s show aired on September 17th after joking about the political reaction to the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
The decision by US network ABC to draw the show, as well as boycotts of Disney and its streaming services, has led to widespread criticism.
In a statement issued Monday, ABC said, “We spent our last day having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy and after those conversations we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Disney CEO Bob Iger, Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Kimmel have come to a decision Monday to bring Kimmel back to the sky after consultations over the weekend, Reuters reported.
He said the decision was led to the entertainment company’s greatest profits, not outside pressure from the station owner or the FCC.
Sources say Kimmel is expected to address the issue when his show returns on Tuesday.
A Kimmel spokesperson could not immediately contact us due to comments from Reuters.
Having repeatedly put pressure on the station to stop broadcasting content he felt uncomfortable, Trump celebrated the news of Kimmel’s suspension, mistakenly calling it a complete cancellation of the show.
Kimmel, who frequently targeted Trump on his show, sparked last Monday about Kirk’s September 10th assassination, who was shot down while addressing a crowd of 3,000 people on Orem’s Utah Valley University campus.
Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative political activist and podcast host, was praised in 2024 for building support for Trump and the Republican Party.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old vocational school student from Utah, is charged with Kirk’s murder, but the exact motive for the murder remains unknown.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has used his office and court to attack affirmative speeches about him, known as honorary disease or false. Through both terms, Trump has threatened to revoke the licenses of the national network’s local broadcasting affiliates. The license is approved by the FCC, a nominally independent regulatory body.
Disney’s move marks the first big pushback to the Trump administration by big media.
ABC suspended Kimmel’s show on Wednesday after Carr threatened investigations and regulatory actions against the authorized broadcaster who aired Kimmel.
The owners of many local TV stations affiliated with ABC said they no longer carry shows, including Nexstar, which requires FCC approval for the $6.2 billion merger with Tegna.
On Friday, Republican Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz said Kerr’s threat is dangerous.
