The Monkeypaw produced Him was a mystery no longer today at CinemaCon as the first trailer for the Justin Tipping directed sports horror movie was shown.
The Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox and Tim Heidecker starring movie follows a promising young football player who joins an isolated compound to train under a dynasty team’s aging quarterback. And from the trailer, which has Wayans’ acerbic coach’s v.o., it appears it’s some sort of Satanic compound with goat images, people drench in blood and very alluring, scantily clad women.
First look is football stadium and Wayans’ voice over: “Do you want this? I said, do you want this? Training, lifting, running, sweating, intense. Talent is how hard you are willing to work, no days off, mostly we grind. I am never good enough. I am never good enough.” Two helmeted plays knock heads. And things get weird, supernatural. The first football horror film is here. “You have to ask yourself what are you willing to sacrifice. Then it’s football with flashes or horned creatures, monsters, ghost, and its clear. You sacrifice a lot.”
The pic comes out Sept 19 and is timed to NFL season.
Said Withers before the footage rolled, “We were intrigued about live sports with horror, something that felt memorable, unique and borrows under the skin.”
Added Wayans, “It’s not like Rudy… but it’s a sports movie with a twist.”
Emphasized Withers, “You have never ever seen a Marlon like this ever, ever, ever.”
