SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge in San Francisco on Tuesday indefinitely barred the Trump administration from firing federal workers during the government shutdown.
U.S. District Judge Susan Illston granted a preliminary injunction barring the termination while litigation over the termination proceeds. He had previously filed a temporary restraining order against the layoffs, which was set to expire Wednesday.
Illston, an appointee of Democratic President Bill Clinton, said he believed the evidence would ultimately show that the mass layoffs were illegal and exceeded his authority.
