Kelli O’Hara, the Broadway actress who can currently be seen on HBO’s The Gilded Age, will join Tom Hanks in his Off Broadway play This World Of Tomorrow this fall.
O’Hara is among the new cast announcements for the Hanks play, which begins performances October 30 in The Shed’s Griffin Theater. Also joining the previously announced production are Kerry Bishé, Kayli Carter, Paul Murphy, Jamie Ann Romero, Lee Aaron Rosen, Jay O. Sanders, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Donald Webber Jr., and Michelle Wilson.
The play, to be directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon, is written by Hanks and James Glossman, based on short stories written by Hanks. The play features Hanks in the lead role opposite O’Hara.
This World of Tomorrow tells the story of Bert Allenberry (Hanks), a forlorn scientist from the future who embarks on a time-traveling quest for true love, returning again, and again, and again to one special day at the 1939 World’s Fair in Queens, New York.
Previews for This World of Tomorrow begin October 30 with an opening night on November 18 as The Shed’s 2025 Gala. The production closes December 21.
O’Hara has been nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning for The King and I. She most recently completed a critically acclaimed limited Broadway engagement of the new musical Days of Wine and Roses.
