EXCLUSIVE: Artists First has signed rising comedic actress Keyla Monterroso Mejia for management, Deadline has learned.
Mejia broke out with her scene-stealing character arc as Maria Sofia Estrada on Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO’s award-winning comedy series from Larry David. The performance was one that caught the attention of many, including Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson, who in Season 2 tapped her for the recurring role of Ashley, teacher’s aide to Melissa Schementi (Lisa Ann Walter), on the hit ABC comedy.
Currently, Mejia can be seen recurring on Mindy Kaling’s pro basketball comedy series Running Point for Netflix as well as Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s Apple series, The Studio, where she plays Petra, Seth’s harried assistant. She also recently joined the cast of Apple TV+’s Acapulco for the show’s fourth and final season, which premieres July 23rd.
In film, Mejia has been seen starring opposite Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon in You’re Cordially Invited, Nicholas Stoller’s recent wedding rom-com for Amazon MGM Studios. Recently, she’s also been seen stealing scenes opposite Keke Palmer and SZA in the TriStar buddy comedy One of Them Days, which was released in theaters earlier this year and is now streaming on Netflix.
Previously, Mejia has also been seen starring opposite Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson in Searchlight Pictures’ coming-of-age drama Suncoast, which launched on Hulu after premiering at Sundance. Additionally, she led Netflix’s Freeridge, a spin-off series to the streamer’s coming-of-age dramedy On My Block. Other acting credits include Dean Craig’s indie The Estate, opposite Toni Collette and Anna Faris, and the NYT-praised short film Growing Fangs for Disney+.
The Creative Coalition honored Mejia with an inaugural NextGen Spotlight Initiative Award at the Sundance Film Festival last year. She continues to be represented by UTA, TMP Artists, The Initiative Group, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
