AC Milan aim to start negotiations as soon as possible over a possible January move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to reports.
The Reds spent more time in the summer transfer window than any other team, with high-profile additions to the club including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
The only deal Liverpool didn’t get over the line in the summer was Marc Guehi, who remained at Crystal Palace after the Eagles canceled his contract on deadline day.
This meant Gomez would not be able to pursue a move from Anfield on deadline day, as Liverpool needed cover for starting centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Gomez has yet to start in the Premier League this season, making just two starts in the League Cup, and the Reds could be allowed to leave if they bring in their own reinforcements.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim that Milan are “coming close to attacking” Gomez, with the Serie A club planning to resume negotiations over a loan move as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Another player who has been linked with a move from Liverpool is Andy Robertson, the Scotland international stripped of his place in the pecking order under Arne Slott by Milos Kerkes.
Spanish website Fichajes claimed Robertson would “leave” on a free transfer this summer and that “everything points to a summer free transfer” to Scottish giants Celtic.
The report added: “Those close to the club believe that, given Robertson’s age and sporting plans, allowing him to leave in the summer is the most prudent course of action.”
Celtic are his “natural destination” and “sources in Glasgow say a deal is almost confirmed on a free transfer this summer”.

Robertson spoke about his future earlier this week. “I think last season everyone was tired of talking about these three guys (Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold), but for me my relationship with the club has been great.
“They’ve done everything for me in terms of me and my family. I don’t think I’ve been too bad for them in terms of signing for Hull for £8m and what I’ve done. Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors and I’m relaxed about the whole situation. If this is my last year, it’s my last year. If not, then so be it.”
Asked if there had been any discussions about a new contract with Liverpool, Robertson added: “Obviously I think we’ve had a bit of a stressful summer in terms of decisions and things like that. And I’ve been telling myself over the next few months to just enjoy it, but obviously it’s going to start to take over my life. There’s no doubt about that.”
“These things happen when you go into the last six months. I’m just trying to focus on football right now. I’m happy to be back on the pitch and happy to be able to play the last few games. It’s important and we’ll see what happens. But overall I’m relaxed and the club has been great for me.”
