EXCLUSIVE: The Riverdale star is attached to star and will produce under her Small Victory’s first look deal at Amazon MGM Studios, Fake Wedding.
The project, based on Ali and Anthony Garland‘s short story, is currently being developed with the twosome penning the screenplay. Fake Wedding follows two broke singles who throw a fake wedding to cash in on the registry and the very real problems the make-believe couple encounters.
Amazon MGM Studios is becoming quite the house of rom-coms. Recently their Reese Witherspoon-Will Ferrell movie You’re Cordially Invited amassed 827M viewing minutes within its first few days of availability on Prime, putting it at No. 6 on Nielsen’s overall Top 10. The pic debuted on the streamer on Jan. 30. Amazon MGM Studios also recently world premiered the Paul Feig rom-com sequel Another Simple Favor at SXSW which counts 77% fresh with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lili Reinhart is producing with Small Victory’s Catherine Hagedorn. The news comes in the wake of Reinhart’s movie American Sweatshop world premiering at SXSW. Small Victory was also an EP on that drama in which Reinhart plays Daisy Moriarty, who is dealing with a chaotic personal life, and becomes drawn into the underbelly of the internet.
Also producing Fake Wedding are Davis Entertainment’s John Davis, Scott Glassgold’s 12:01 Films, and Catherine Davis. Davis Entertainment’s John Fox and Jeremy Stein will serve as EPs.
Reinhart starred in Hustlers, Charlie’s Angels as well as CW/Warner Bros TV’s Riverdale on which she portrayed Betty Cooper for 137 episodes.
Raised on 90s cinema, the Garlands are a husband-and-wife creative team who obsess over high concept stories with emotionally complex characters. Together they have developed Anthony’s feature directing debut, the sci-fi love story Alternate. Separately, Anthony is adapting the adventure epic Jaguar for Janet Zucker and Silent Films while Ali is executie producing Nicole Perlman’s Limited Series Challenger with Searchlight Television.

Among their projects are The Dwelling at Amazon with Michael B Jordan starring, My Wife and I Bought A Ranch at Amazon with Drew Hancock writing and directing, Long Lost at Universal with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin producing. As a producer, Glassgold has produced such feature films as Prospect, Hurricane Season and Sony’s Tarot.
