EXCLUSIVE: After turning Disney’s Lilo & Stich live-action pic into the first billion dollar hit of 2025, director Dean Fleischer Camp has a new pitch in the market that he hopes sweeps buyers off its feet. Sources tell Deadline Camp and the producing team behind his Oscar-nominated animated pic Marcel The Shell With Shoes On have taken the untitled pitch to market with buyers already lining up. Camp will write and direct as well as produce alongside Marcel producers Andrew Goldman and Paul Meexy at Present Company as well as Caroline Kaplan.
The live-action pitch is described as Titanic meets The Others and follows two star-crossed lovers during the Edwardian Age who are suddenly torn apart but not by society but by something much stranger. Given Camp’s track record of not only delivering projects that reach the masses but also receive glowing reviews, the package is sure to attract plenty of suitors. Sources say after going out with it last week, the pitch already has multiple offers on the table.
Lilo & Stich has become the breakout hit of the year, recently passing the billion dollar marker at the global box-office earlier this month. Prior to landing that coveted job, Camp’s breakout hit was the 2021 A24 animated feature that earned rave reviews and ultimately earning an Oscar nomination for best animated feature.
Camp is repped by CAA and Mosaic.
