Soon after last month’s end of her turbulent two-year run as CEO of X (formerly Twitter), Linda Yaccarino has landed another top executive post.
The former NBCUniversal and Turner Broadcasting sales exec has been named CEO of eMed, a telehealth startup focused on weight-loss drugs.
The company says its strategic focus is “GLP-1/GIP population health management,” a reference to hormones generated by new medications like Wegovy, Ozempic and others.
In a press release, eMed said its board of directors “views Linda’s arrival as a rare opportunity to bring on a dynamic CEO who turned around one of the most complex digital platforms in the world, and add a hands-on visionary who will accelerate the company’s mission to revolutionize chronic care delivery.” It added that Yaccarino is a “highly sought-after leader who has a powerful presence and the undeniable ability to negotiate new partnerships.”
Known for her combination of drive and charisma during her decades in the TV and digital ad sales realm, Yaccarino stunned her NBCU colleagues in 2023 by jumping to Twitter. Elon Musk, shortly after paying $44 billion to acquire the social platform, tweeted the news she was becoming CEO during rehearsals for NBCU’s upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall.
Yaccarino held the CEO title but operated in the long shadow of Musk, a constant presence on X who also made frequent news by sparring with advertisers and throwing his lot in with the Trump Administration. Musk’s erratic behavior and offensive outbursts alienated advertisers, especially during his first year owning X, but eventually many brands returned to the fold and momentum was more positive as 2025 began. Despite that progress, X still remains well behind major tech outlets like Meta and YouTube in terms of ad revenue, and its subscription strategy has yet to generate transformative results.
The financials of X, which was subsumed into Musk’s xAI earlier this year, are kept largely out of view given it is a privately held company.
Yaccarino struck a characteristically upbeat note in her hiring announcement. “There is an opportunity to combine technology, lifestyle, and data in a new powerful way through the digital channels that impact consumers directly in ways that have never been done before,” she said.
