Vilnius (AP) – The cute and adorable Welsh corgi, widely known for their relationship with the British royal family, is actually a kind of passionate racer.
It has at least brought international fur and its owners from countries such as Poland, Latvia, Germany, Austria and Italy, according to 120 teams around Europe participating in the Kolgires Vilnius in the Lithuanian capital.
Thousands of Lithuanians gathered in the capital’s largest park on Saturday to watch the event. It’s a solo sprint, “the most powerful voice”, costume challenges, and group race contests.
The event culminated on Sunday with so-called world corgi meetups, where Lithuanian dogs connected via live broadcasts with fellow US, Ireland and Polish peers.
“It’s such a fun and wonderful feeling for the whole family and a bright thing that many have been craving lately,” said Janina Stoniene, a retired teacher who attended the race with her three grandchildren. The kids said they praised the costume challenge as the dogs were wearing eye-catching clothes like Batman, Princess and Airplane.
The corgi, named Amigo, wears a factory-themed costume with two small chimneys and “Far Factory” lettering. Another known as the Mango, was a solo race champion, with its owner from Lithuania.
