According to reports, Liverpool have already decided to have “two” replacements for Mohamed Salah, for two reasons.
Salah has suffered a significant decline in form since last season, when he was the best player in the Premier League, and faced harsh criticism at the start of this season.
The veteran forward arguably had his best individual season at Liverpool in 2024/25, but he fell short of his best earlier this season.
Salah has been on the periphery, struggling to make an impact in most of Liverpool’s matches, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s summer move to Real Madrid and the club’s over £400m summer renovation seemingly having an impact on his performances.
This has led to increased speculation about Salah’s future at Liverpool, with calls for Arne Slott’s side to replace him either in January or next summer.
Sources say Semenyo and Gordon are highly rated by Liverpool’s recruitment team, who are impressed with the penetration they offer the club and their ability to play in multiple positions up front.

Now, Football Insider reports that the Reds have chosen to “focus on two Premier League stars to replace Salah”, with Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth.
Liverpool are said to be ‘monitoring’ Gordon and Semenyo as they ‘plan to sign another big-money forward’.
The report adds:
“Sources say Semenyo and Gordon are highly rated by Liverpool’s recruitment team, who are impressed with the penetration they offer the club and their ability to play in multiple positions up front.”
Liverpool also need to sign a centre-back, with Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract, but the deal with Marc Gehi fell through on deadline day in the summer.

Guehi is also out of contract next summer and Liverpool remain interested in the centre-back, although they face competition from several European teams.
Yet, according to another report from Football Insider, they “plan to accelerate their move to sign the world-class Guehi in January”, with former Premier League chief scout Mick Brown insisting they “could get it done” in the winter.
“Liverpool don’t look as solid defensively as they did last year,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Van Dijk is not well and they are still not completely sure about Konate’s future.
“There was obviously a lot of talk about Marc Gehi, but they missed out on him in the summer and now all kinds of clubs are looking at him.
“Initially it seemed certain that he would go to Liverpool in January, but at the moment that doesn’t seem to be the case because he has other options.
“It’s no surprise that teams like Real Madrid are now targeting him. He’s England’s starting centre-back and would be available for free. But I’ve always felt that Liverpool could try to achieve that in January, even if that’s no longer a certainty.”
“He is by far the best option at the moment and is available for less than £35 million, which is an incredible amount for a defender of his quality.”
“Given the difficulties they’ve had on defense recently, they’ll be even more determined to get that deal done as soon as possible.”
