Jamie Carrager argues there is a reason behind Manchester United’s decision to stick to head coach Reuben Amorim in “The Big Cry.”
Amorim is under a lot of pressure on Man UTD as he is his second favorite to become the first Premier League manager to be plundered this season.
The 40-year-old spent some passionate time after replacing former male boss Erik Ten Hag towards the end of 2024 as he struggled to implement his preferred 3-4-3 formation.
Under Amorim, the Red Devils plunged to 15th place in the Premier League, losing to the Spurs in the Europa League final, but their problems were carried over to this campaign.
Man Utd has invested around £200 million to overhaul the attack by signing Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, but it’s still ineffective and easy to play in the forward position.

Carragher commented on Amorim’s situation, claiming that if he “isn’t that good looking guy”, he “lost his job early.”
“Now there’s a big cry to bring Jose Mourinho back to British football, because he’s the box office, he has things, but he was the winner. We always remember Brian Claff.
“The issue of Reuben Amorim is great at press conferences, but he’s not winning, so people are thinking, ‘Oh, shut up, stop talking.’ But if he had won, we would all have thought he was a great character and personality.
“If he wasn’t that charismatic and not that good looking guy at the press conference, he might have lost his job sooner. They’re terrifying when you see the outcome.”

Carragher also praised Amorim for his achievements in Sporting Lisbon, but he named two other Premier League managers who are “better” than the current Man UTD boss.
“He said something at the press conference, “I’ll close this system and let the game close my eyes and play.” If he doesn’t get results, I don’t think he has time to do it,” Karager added.
“He’s still a very young manager. What he did in Sports Lisbon was a great achievement when considering Benfica and Porto in that league, so we shouldn’t amortize it.
“Take Unai Emery and Eddie Howe. They’re not managers going to the league, but they’re good managers.
“If you think this guy (Amorim) can’t even go to the league and gets all the answers to get Manchester United back to the top when he has an experienced manager, then I think it’s hard for him to turn that around because there are so many good managers in the Premier League.”
