Man United have made moves to sign Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choameny and AZ Alkmaar’s Keith Smit ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Red Devils continue to gain momentum under manager Ruben Amorim and are looking to sign at least one new midfielder in the next few transfer windows.
Manchester United are currently unbeaten in five Premier League matches and can aim above, rather than behind, to make changes under Amorim.
The Red Devils could last for years with the right midfield reinforcements, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisting Amorim wants to avoid short-term fixes and bring in players in January if they can contribute in the long term.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Conversations began between Ruben Amorim’s board and the Manchester United management team ahead of the start of the season in January.
“I spoke about midfielders. I said that Manchester United are looking for that position. But in general terms, Amorim and the Man United management are talking about the January period, the opportunities and what to do with the players who want to play more.”

Romano added: “Ruben Amorim is not going to bring in a player just for a few months. If they believe he can be a long-term option, he will join Manchester United.”
“If someone joins in January, it’s a player that Man United can trust not only now but in the future. That’s the message from Ruben Amorim: Don’t add players who will help you for a few games and then go back to the club.”
“Let’s add people who can help us today and tomorrow. This is the manager’s message and this will be the idea in the January transfer window.”
Now, a report from Spanish website Fichajes, which can normally be taken with a grain of salt, claims that Man United have made an “offer” of 25 million euros (approximately 2.2 billion yen) for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Smit, whom manager Ronald Koeman has recently dubbed “the new Pedri”.
The report added: “Sporting executives want to avoid exorbitant spending on established footballers and instead focus on young players who can establish and develop at Old Trafford.”
“We think Manchester could be one of the most profitable moves next summer due to its relatively low price in the current market.”
Dutch national team coach Koeman recently said the following about Dutch international Smit:
“The way he turns his back on the opponent, the way he looks all over the area, the way he plays with both feet… we saw that with Pedri as well. If he can get half of his career, we’ll be very happy in Holland.”

Smit is not the only midfielder Man United are eyeing, with reports in Spain claiming the Red Devils want to sign Real Madrid’s Choameni.
Manchester United “made an offer of €70 million (about £62 million) plus €20 million (about £17 million) in add-ons to lure him away from the Santiago Bernabéu”, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is “not even considering starting negotiations”.
The report added: “For the Real Madrid president, Choameni is completely untouchable and the perfect fit for the new backbone designed to dominate Europe for the next decade.” And no amount of offers, no matter how big, can change that view. ”
