Reports say Manchester United have finally agreed to a deal with Real Betis to sell Antony, who joined the Red Devils for about £80 million in 2022.
The Brazilian followed Ajax’s Eric Ten Hag in the first summer of Dutch manager at Old Trafford.
It was a perfect start for Antony, winning his debut with a 3-1 win over Arsenal and finishing second in the Premier League that season.
Unfortunately, for players and clubs, it’s downhill from there.
In total, Antony scored 12 goals and five assists in the club’s 96 appearances, picking up 14 yellow cards in the process.
He goes down as one of the worst signatures in club history and certainly one of the worst signatures made by 10 hugs.
I believe Alexis Sanchez is the worst in United’s signature since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and that Ole Gunnar Solskier’s purchase Jadon Sancho is right in front of him.
Andy Kellett and Radamel Falcao are there before landing on Antony.

Perhaps the worst thing about the end of the Red Devils in recent years is how well the players did after leaving Old Trafford.
For example, Scott McTominay joined Napoli last summer and won the Serie A title while voting for the league’s most valuable player.
After failing to beat new head coach Reuben Amorim, Antony was loaned out to Real Betis in January.
He moved to Spain with his reputation and value on the ground. United were expected to get up to £15 million from his sales if he left forever.
The loan spell has now benefited everyone involved. Antony was great, helping Betis reach the final of the Europa Conference League, increasing his transfer value and potentially reviving his United career.
However, when he returned to Manchester for the preseason, he was told he was not in Amorim’s plan for 2025/26.
The Brazilian winger was placed in the “bomb squad” along with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrrell Malacia and Sancho, and was not involved in training the first team or featured in the preseason.
Betis has been trying to agree to a deal to bring Anthony back to Andalusia all summer, but they have finally reached a breakthrough.
According to Sky Sports, United accepts bids from the La Liga side and has agreed to Betis and Antony all personal terms.
Forwarding journalist Dharmesh Sheth said:
Manchester United have accepted a bid from Real Betis to sign Antony on a permanent deal.
The winger is given permission to travel to confirm the move.
It’s up to Antony and the real Betis to agree with the personal terminology.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg also reported the news. He added to X: “Manchester United and Real Betis are currently agreeing to a permanent #Antony deal revealed via @Skysports_sheth. He can travel for medical care, but the agreement between Antony and Betis is still pending.”
Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano says the two clubs are still caught up in negotiations with Antony.
There is no “green light” from the Premier League club. Premier League clubs want permanent moves and a 50% sell-on clause.
Romano writes about X: “There is no immediate travel for medical, Antony at this stage as the real Betis and Manchester United are still negotiating. There is a discussion of permanent moves, 50% selling clauses, salary and exit conditions.
