Manchester United need to replace summer signing Senne Lamence with a world-class goalkeeper in the January transfer window, according to former Premier League striker Emile Heskey.
The Red Devils spent more than £200m on new signings in the summer transfer window as Manchester United’s board looked to back Ruben Amorim on the market.
Manchester United got off to a poor start this season, but back-to-back Premier League wins against Sunderland and defending champions Liverpool have given fans encouragement that Amorim is the right man in the right place.
Ramens joined the team for the first time against Sunderland and the Belgian performed well in the first two games, contributing to both wins.
But Lamence was not convinced Heskey was the long-term solution for Manchester United, who play Brighton at the weekend, and urged Amorim and the board to look for a new world-class goalkeeper in January.
Heskey told BetBrain: “Despite Senne Lamence’s promising start, I still believe Manchester United need to sign a goalkeeper in January.”
“They are one of the biggest clubs in the world so they need the best talent in every position.

“Look at Man City, they signed Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer and he won the Champions League last season!
“This is a great example of a club recruiting one of the best players in the world for that position.
“Man United need to regain their position and bring in a world-class goalkeeper who can stay at the club for many years to come and strengthen the backbone of the team.
“That should be the focus for Ruben Amorim in the coming months.”
Benjamin Sesko was also signed in the summer transfer window, but the Slovenian international scored just two goals in nine games in all competitions.
Sesco, 22, has been in and out of the team and Heskey believes Amorim is “hiding” Sesco after seeing Rasmus Højlund and other young strikers fail at Man United.

Heskey added: “Ruben Amorim hasn’t thrown Benjamin Sesco into the deep end yet because he understands what effect it had on the former Manchester United forwards.”
“I think he’s shielding him a little bit, but it could be a two-way street. United are winning games without him, so there might be a question about whether Sesco is such an asset to the team.”
“Amorim would have needed to clearly communicate his plans to Sesco because otherwise the player’s mindset could change and he would feel undervalued if he is not as involved.
“We all saw what happened with players like Rasmus Høylund. Clubs have a history of signing forwards who don’t necessarily fulfill their potential and end up leaving. They don’t want another forward.”
“The last thing Amorim wants is for the same process to happen to Sesko.”
