Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher is “positive” about joining Man United in the January transfer window in the run-up to the World Cup, according to reports.
The Red Devils spent over £200m in the summer transfer window as INEOS backed Ruben Amorim to turn things around after a dismal 15th place in the Premier League in 2024/25.
Manchester United have welcomed three new attackers in Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesco and Matheus Cunha, while goalkeeper Senne Lamence and youngster Diego Leon have also joined the team.
Many Man United fans and former players believed that not signing a new midfielder during the summer was a huge oversight, but the Red Devils made a number of calls for players in that position.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleva was high on the list, but Manchester United made a belated inquiry as they were considering a loan deal for England international Gallagher due to his astronomical price tag.
Gallagher has appeared in 16 games in all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season, but only four of those have been from the start.

And United in Focus claim that INEOS have made signing a new midfielder their “top priority” in January, with Gallagher “currently open” to a move to Man United in the winter transfer window.
Former Chelsea midfielder Gallagher is currently on a tight budget, making him a “more likely target than the likes of Elliott Anderson and Carlos Baleva” in January.
With the World Cup just around the corner, Gallagher believes he should be fighting for a place in the squad, but there is currently no chance of him playing a bit role at Atletico.
And journalist Graham Bailey told United in Focus that a move to Manchester United had become an “attractive option for him”.

Bailey said: “Gallagher is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with Atlético. He is settled in the Spanish capital, but I strongly believe he can and should play for England. If he doesn’t play, that won’t happen.”
“Gallagher is aware of the interest and we have heard that United are an attractive option for him.
“United are aware of the interest from other clubs and will make a decision in the coming weeks ahead of the start of January.
“While we are pleased with their form in recent weeks, we believe there is a need for further midfield holding options within the club and there is a good chance that Gallagher will offer that.”
