The Manchester United star, who is reportedly being pursued by 10 clubs, will ask to leave in January, a source said: “Please don’t get me wrong”.
United have made a huge leap forward this season from last season. They are in 8th place in the Premier League, but are only two points behind second-placed Manchester City, with many teams on the same level.
The Red Devils finished 15th last season, so being this competitive at this stage bodes well for Ruben Amorim, who is under threat, at least in the media.
One of his biggest calls this season was giving little playing time to Koby Mainu. The English player is regarded as an exceptional talent but has only played in two midfield positions and Amorim has given him just 138 minutes of Premier League action.
Mainu was a target for several teams in the summer, but was left at United as a back-up option.
Although he has barely played this season, Catch Offside reports that sources say he intends to look for an exit once the winter period opens.
One player was quoted as saying: “They stopped him from leaving in the summer, but they’re not wrong. He wants to leave and the club knows that.”
The report also names 10 teams interested in signing the United midfielder in January.
In addition to Napoli, who are listed as leaders in the race with a “strong and concrete interest”, there is also interest from Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester City, Leeds, Everton, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
United remain unwilling to let Mainu go. However, interest from Atlético could be the most interesting given what he could be for the Red Devils.

Conor Gallagher could leave Atletico, it is said, potentially creating space for Maynou to join.
United won’t make it easy for Maynou to leave for the Spanish side, but if United are the one to sign Gallagher, it could be a win-win.
They’ve been linked to him for a while now, and that connection is only getting stronger as the January deadline approaches.
In late October, it was reported that United were “determined” to make a reasonable bid for Gallagher. Both moves seem likely if Atlético and the two midfielders can reach an agreement.
