This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman is recruiting another star of his acclaimed NBC family drama for a followup series. Mandy Moore has been tapped as a series regular opposite Christopher Meloni and William H. Macy in Hulu’s upcoming untitled Dan Fogelman football drama.
Set inside the world of the NFL, the series has a generational family component to it, and Moore will be part of it. She will play Lauren, the daughter of NFL team owner Hank Durkin (Macy) and his heir apparent. Meloni is playing the team’s head coach, Danny Roarke.
The series, from 20th Television and Skydance Sports, is written and executive produced by Fogelman and executive produced by Jess Rosenthal and Kevin Falls. Also executive producing are David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, and Jason T. Reed for Skydance Sports, one of several divisions that are staying intact and keeping the Skydance moniker following the merger with Paramount Global.
This is the second new drama series Fogelman has created since This Is Us ended its six-season run in May 2022 following Paradise — also for Hulu via 20th TV where Fogelman is under an overall deal — which premiered in January and has been renewed for Season 2. Both star actors who played members of the Pearson family at the heart of This Is Us: Moore, who portrayed the mom, Rebecca, and Sterling K. Brown, who played one of the sons, Randall. Brown headlines and executive produces Paradise, whose first season earned four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, a category This Is Us was a staple in for most of its run.
Fogelman has built an universe, using the same actors across multiple series. Other examples include Galavant’s Timothy Omundson recurring on This Is Us and This Is Us‘ Griffin Dunne doing an arc on Hulu’s Only Murders In the Building, which Fogelman also executive produces.
Moore received an Emmy nomination for her role on This Is Us. She recently wrapped production on the TriStar feature comedy The Breadwinner opposite Nate Bargatze, which is directed by Eric Appel. Moore also is part of the voice cast of Prime Video’s adult animated comedy series #1 Happy Family USA, created by Ramy Youssef and Pam Brady, which premiered in April. Moore is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
