Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer has closed the doors for consumer software startup Sunshine and is selling the company’s assets to new AI startup Dazzle. The news was first reported by Wired, citing an email sent to Sunshine shareholders.
Dazzle is leaving to build an AI personal assistant, the report said an anonymous source, adding that all Sunshine employees will be moving to the new company.
Almost all Sunshine investors, including Norwest Venture Partners, Felicis Partners and SV Angel, have signed the deal, Wired said it is saying its source.
Originally founded in 2018, Sunshine was first launched with a contact management subscription app called “Sunshine Contacts.” The product was hardly adopted and suffered mostly due to privacy concerns. In 2024, the service added event management and photo sharing. Of course, with the touch of AI – was hardly successful. Both apps have been downloaded over 1,000 times on the Google Play Store.
The company raised about $20 million in 2020, and according to Meyer, it was primarily self-funded.
