It reflects those early days
In October 2021, in a letter to then-speakers, Senators Nancy Pelosi and Senators Chuck Schumer, Meghan explained her support for forced paid parental leave in the United States, writing that she was “a joyful” but “overwhelmed” when her daughter was born.
“Like fewer parents, we weren’t faced with the harsh reality of spending our first few months with our baby or returning to work,” she wrote. “We knew we could take her home, and at that important (and sacred) stage we will devote everything to our children and our families.
Meghan said, “Families should not face these decisions. They don’t have to choose to earn their family and choose their freedom to care for their children (or loved ones, or themselves) as seen in a comprehensive paid leave plan.”
