Lee Dixon urged Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to drop Ben White in support of Julian Timber as he believes the latter is “probably the best in his league at the time.”
Timber played 30 times in the Arsenal league last season, but launched a new campaign from the bench when he returned from uncle surgery.
Instead, Ben White did well as Gunners kept a clean seat at Old Trafford, but despite this, previous left-back Dixon said Arteta should drop the white in favor of “more adaptable” wood.
“It’s always dangerous not to have a number one in a particular position,” Dixon said. “For the happiness of the player, for his thinking, you need to be in a position where you feel you have the opportunity to prove yourself. I don’t think a bad game will sacrifice your place.

“But like I said, there are a lot of games going forward and injuries are a big part of how the season goes, and these guys have both had injuries issues over the past few seasons. Squad rotation is important and both play a lot of football.
“The wood is probably a little more adaptable. Ben clearly knows he can play center half, but the wood can do left back, right back, center back.”
Dixon praised White and highlighted his link-up play with Bukayo Saka, but Timber was able to develop it, suggesting that it was “probably the best in the league of his day.”
“I’m a huge fan. I have to say,” continued Dixon. “That’s not to say I’m not a Ben White fan. I think my relationship with Saka has really developed into something concrete. You can see the synergy between them.
“He has that strength. I like his tenacity. He looks like a strong kind of hard hit, but so does his ballplay fullback.
Dixon may get his wish for Arsenal’s next game at Leeds United’s home after White injured the field.
He was replaced in the 71st minute and was seen by the club’s physio, but at the end of the game, usually suggesting that the problem was not so serious.
