Molly Shannon (Only Murders In the Building) is set to star opposite Will Ferrell in his upcoming golf series for Netflix.
The untitled project stars Ferrell, in his first TV comedy series, as a fictional golf legend. The 10-episode series has evolved significantly and is very different than the original Mat 2024 announcement, which had Ferrell co-starring in the comedy alongside Ramy Youssef, with the two co-creating it alongside Josh Rabinowitz.
Youssef, Rabinowitz as well as Andy Campagna of Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy all left the project last year due to creative differences, sources said.
The series is executive produced by Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue are executive producers for T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest will serve as executive producers.
Shannon and Ferrell are from the same Saturday Night Live generation; she was on the venerable NBC late-night comedy from 1995-2021, he was from 1996-2002. Their many memorable sketches together include Dog Show.
Ferrell also starred opposite Shannon in the SNL offshoot feature Superstar. The duo recently reunited for a Funny or Die/Prime Video stint as Rose Parade hosts Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan
Shannon is coming off her major recurring role on Season 4 of Only Murders In the Building, for which she shared in the cast’s Best Comedy Ensemble SAG Award. She is repped by UTA, Framework Entertainment and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Youssef and his Cairo Cowboy and currently in development on an untitled Living Facility series for Netflix with Steve Way.
