Arsenal and Manchester United attacker Morgan Rodgers has given two fingers up to the Premier League’s elite by agreeing a new six-year contract with Aston Villa.
According to The Athletic, Rodgers has currently signed two new contracts since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024, but his latest deal is expected to bring a significant increase in his salary.
Morgan Rodgers moves to Aston Villa
Transfer from Middlesbrough for just £7m 18 goals and 20 assists in 85 games Most assists by a Premier League player in all competitions in 2025 (12) Youngest Villa player to contribute 25 Premier League goals since 2013 Contract extended to 2030-31
Rodgers was a revelation for the Villans and it remains surprising that he only cost around £7m.
As is often the case, his performances sparked speculation over a move elsewhere, with all of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ at one point reportedly being linked.
Unai Emery’s side have improved since Rodgers arrived from Middlesbrough, helping Villa finish in the top four in 2023/24 and reach the Champions League quarter-finals in 2024/25.
The England attacker has been inconsistent at times this year, but has still provided 12 assists in all competitions, more than any other player in the Premier League in 2025.
According to David Ornstein, Rodgers has a “new contract agreement” through 2031, with the player set to receive a “significantly improved salary.”
Rodgers will become one of Villa’s highest earners amid growing interest from “other significant teams in and outside the Premier League”, an interest that is unlikely to wane despite his contract renewal.
He is the latest key player to commit to his future at Villa Park, following in the footsteps of Boubacar Kamara, Matty Cash, John McGinn and Lucas Digne.
Only Mo Salah (25) has provided more open play assists in all competitions over the past two seasons than Morgan Rodgers (16) 🪄

Important 1-year extension of Villa’s amulet
Rodgers’ previous contract was due to expire in 2030, so this new deal adds an extra year. The main purpose of the renewal is clearly to reward his importance to the team and his contribution to date.
Capology reports that Villa have not only strengthened their position with the contract extension, but Rodgers’ weekly wages will also rise to around £150,000, double his previous £75,000-a-week salary.
This is a well-deserved boost for the player and an important statement for Aston Villa and Emery.
Rodgers points finger at Premier League elite
After Ebere Eze moved from Crystal Palace to Arsenal, Rodgers was left isolated against the big boys of the Premier League.
It is vitally important for Villa to retain their most important players and Rodgers’ new contract is both a statement of intent from the club and a rare demonstration of loyalty from a player.
For the Premier League’s elite, it means they will have to pay an extra £20m and meet even higher wage demands if they want to lure Rodgers away from Villa.
