EXCLUSIVE: Alice Kellen’s hit novel All That We Never Were is being made into a feature film produced by Pepe Bastón, Monica Gil-Rodriguez and The Simpsons star Nancy Cartwright.
Gil-Rodriguez and Cartwright’s Cre84U Entertainment has co-produced the adaptation, which just wrapped production in Spain. Warner Brothers Pictures Spain will handle theatrical distribution, with a 2026 release planned for cinemas.
Starring Maxi Iglesias (Valeria), Sebastián Zurita (How to Survive Being Single) and newcomer Margarida Corceiro (Citas Barcelona), and directed by Jorge Alonso (Camino de la suerte), the movie follows 19-year-old Leah Jones as she navigates a coming-of-age journey in the wake of a tragic car accident that claims her parents. Relocated to a coastal town under the care of her brother’s best friend, Axel Nguyen, Leah grapples with grief, haunting nightmares and a fractured sense of self.
The book was published several years back by the Us on the Moon and The Theory of Archipelagos author.
Alongside co-producer Elefantec Global, the movie is the latest project from Cre84U, the co-venture launched five years ago by Cartwright, best known as the voice of Bart Simpson, Gil-Rodriguez, and Jaime and Carolina Aymerich. Bastón, a former President of Mexican giant Televisa Internacional, is also aboard All That We Never Were as producer alongside Gil-Rodriguez, Alejandro Miranda of Versus Entertainment and Victor Corrales of Lyo Media. Cartwright is EP alongside Daya Fernandez, Alois Rubenbauer and Amaury Nolasco.
“We are honored to bring this deeply moving story to life—one that captivated us from the very first read of Alice Kellen’s beautiful novel,” said Bastón and Gil-Rodriguez. “With the powerful chemistry between Maxi Iglesias, Margarida Corceiro and Sebastian Zurita, we believe this adaptation will fully capture the emotional essence and spirit of the book.”
