Here’s the official trailer and new images for Netflix‘s Italian drama series The Monster of Florence.
Stefano Sollima‘s four-part series, which he created with Leonardo Fasoli, will premiere out of competition at the Venice International Film Festival, and then be available on Netflix on October 22, tying in with the tenth anniversary of the service in Italy.
The series goes back to the origins of the Monster of Florence case, which involved a string of eight double murders committed using a .22 caliber Beretta between 1968 and 1985. It starts from the first inquiry and reconstructs one of the longest and most controversial investigations in Italian history. Sollima spent over a year researching the case, which remains unsolved.
“Horror, to be truly told, must be faced, not avoided, and a story, to come through with clarity, without embracing a thesis, must begin at the very beginning,” said Sollima. “To recount it with honesty, respect, and rigor must still carry meaning. Not to solve, not to explain, but simply to remember. A way to remain close to those who were left there, forever in the night.”
The trailer, which is dubbed into English from the original Italian, promises a tense watch, specifically the ‘Sardinian lead’, a line of police inquiry spawned by a local couple with relationship issues.
The TV series comes from Fremantle’s Italian company The Apartment and AlterEgo, and is produced by Lorenzo Mieli, Sollima and Gina Gardini. It stars Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, Liliana Bottone, Giacomo Fadda, Antonio Tintis and Giordano Mannu.
