The Manchester United attacker has reportedly been told there is “no chance” he will be allowed to leave in January after the club “refuses the request” in the winter.
United had a huge influx of forward talent in the summer. Of the approximately £170 million spent, the bulk was spent on improvements to the front.
The signings of Benjamin Sesco, Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo to improve their attack have clearly had an impact, with the Red Devils having scored 19 goals in the Premier League so far, with only the top three scoring more.
This contract significantly reduces Joshua Zirkzee’s playing opportunities this season. The Dutchman was signed last summer but struggled in his debut season, scoring just seven goals in over 40 games.
It’s clear that he hasn’t felt special this season, playing just 90 minutes in five games across all competitions.
However, The Sun reports that United are prepared to “block requests” from a number of players to leave midway through the season, with players being told there is “no chance” they will be allowed to leave in January.
It has been explained that one of the reasons United do not want to let some players go in January is because they would lose Brian Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Nousair Mazraoui for the African Cup of Nations in the winter.
With Mbeumo out and Sesco injured against Tottenham (though it doesn’t appear to be serious), Zirkzee could see more playing time.
United will not want to compete for the top spot as they are lacking in strength with Zirksee’s departure.
Meanwhile, Sesko’s injury has caused tension between United and Slovenia, with the national team frustrated that doctors are unable to examine Sesko’s injury.

The documents are now being sent to Slovenia, but manager Mattias Kek initially said: “With all due respect to a great club like Manchester United, we have not officially received anything yet. We have not received any documents, no documents.”
“We would love to have them. We want our medical team to see that as well. Our physicians are experts in this field. We don’t have just people in this position. We are experts in this field. We are experts in this field.”
“I can’t comment. Of course, I have certain information and I’ve been in contact with Beni. Officially I don’t know anything, so I can’t say anything.”
“United have not contacted anyone in camp. Of course I am worried about the player. The only thing that matters to me is his health.”
“We are ready to do everything for that and have never sent anyone into the field if there is even the slightest risk.”
