Reports say new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was the first to reject the opportunity to replace West Ham United’s Graham Potter.
Potter was chased from his misery on Saturday morning, and West Ham confirmed he had parted ways with former Chelsea and Brighton bosses.
Potter then admitted that West Ham’s “results were not sufficient” during his reign.
“I am extremely disappointed to leave the West Ham United Football Club because I have not been able to achieve what I will achieve, especially at the start of my trip in East London,” Potter said in a statement.
“But I fully acknowledge that the outcome has not been sufficient up until now.”

It was confirmed shortly after West Ham’s initial announcement that they had appointed Nuno to replace Potter.
On joining West Ham, Nuno said:
“My goal is to work hard to get the best from the team and ensure we are as competitive as possible.
“Work has already begun and I look forward to the challenges that go on.”
Interestingly, the Sun claims that Nuno “first refused” the opportunity to manage West Ham due to “a financial dispute with the forest associated with the retirement package.”

It should be noted that West Ham got into contact with Nuno and his representative after “seeing enough Potter two weeks ago,” and was considered the final straw after losing 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on September 13th.
Nuno’s rejection was “opened the door” for former West Ham midfielder and former female head coach Gary O’Neill “who was interviewed on September 18th.”
It will be added to the report:
“The 42-year-old was sure that after learning Nuno’s initial rejection, his agent would push his clients hard to get a nod and land the position.
“But Nuno has always been West Ham’s first choice, and there have been discussions with former Hammer boss Slaven Billick, but Sunsport understands that they are more of a ‘nuno encouragement’ than serious consideration.”
The report later claims that Hammer returned to the negotiation table with Nuno after a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
