On June 18, 2023, a deep-sea dive capacity Titan, run by the US-based company Oceanate Expeditions, carrying five people on a voyage to the Titanic shipwreck, was declared missing. After a five-day search, the U.S. Coast Guard announced at a press conference on June 22 that it had suffered a “devastating implosion” in which the ship killed all five passengers on board.
Shazada Dod, a Pakistani-born businessman, and his 19-year-old son, Suleman Dod, both were among the victims of British citizens.
Their family is one of the wealthiest people in Pakistan, and according to the New York Times, Shazada Dod is the vice-president of Englo Corporation. His son was studying at Strathslide University in Glasgow, Scotland.
Shazada’s younger sister Azmeda Wood told NBC News that Suleman had reluctantly made the voyage, told his relatives that he “didn’t raise that much” and that he was “terrified” about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, but ultimately went to delight his father, Father’s Day, to please his father’s fans.
The Dawood Foundation stated, “It is a deep sadness to announce the death of Shahzada and Suleman Dawood. Our beloved son announced that he was riding a Titan Subatible in Oceanagte, who died underwater.
