NEW YORK (AP) – Anne Packer’s first novel in 10 years, “Some Bright Nowhere,” oprah winfrey’s latest book club picks.
“Some Bright Nowhere,” released Tuesday, tells the story of a long-married couple and the questions they face when the wife becomes terminally ill and announces her dying wish that her husband be cared for by two close friends.
“This beautifully written story will make you think about what really matters,” Winfrey said in a statement. “This story raises questions about the obligations of marriage, the differences between friendships between men and women, and one of the most important questions: how do you want to spend your final days?”
Ms Packer, 66, is best known for her acclaimed novel “Dive from Clausen Pier”, published in 2002. She has also published the novels “Songs Without Words” and “Children’s Crusade,” and the short story collection “Mendocino and Other Stories.” like Other authors chosen by Winfrey, Packer learned he had been selected through an unexpected phone call.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said ‘Oh my God’ so many times in a few minutes,” Packer said in a statement.
Tuesday’s announcement continues Winfrey’s partnership with Starbucks. She and Packer recently met at a Starbucks in New York City, and the conversation has been broadcast on Winfrey’s YouTube channel and other podcast channels.
