EXCLUSIVE: Ransom Canyon fans will see more of Casey W. Johnson in Season 2. The actor has been promoted to series regular following one season in the recurring role of Kit Russell, sources close to production tell Deadline.
Production on the Western’s sophomore season is expected to begin this fall in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Created, written and executive produced by April Blair, and based on Jodi Thomas’ book series, Ransom Canyon is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary western saga that follows three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies. They are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.
At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past. Vise tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him.
Johnson’s character Kit is the brother of Lucas Russell (Garrett Wareing), both of whom experienced tremendous loss and trauma from an abusive father who eventually abandoned them. Kit took on a more paternal role in the relationship after that, while Lucas focused on his schoolwork. Outside of his familial storyline, Kit played a pivotal role in the mystery behind the car accident that took Staten’s son Randall from him.
The Season 1 cast also included Eoin Macken, Philip Winchester, Lizzy Greene, Andrew Liner, and James Brolin.
Before his work on Ransom Canyon, Johnson was a regular on For All Mankind for Apple TV+. He recurred on Glow for Netflix and Rise for NBC. He is repped by Greene Talent, Principal Entertainment, and Arine Harapeti.
