Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blocked a move for the striker, of whom Ruben Amorim is a “long-time fan”, according to reports.
The Red Devils have had a poor start to the season, with pressure mounting over Amorim’s poor performance in the Premier League.
But Saturday’s 4-2 win at Brighton lifted Man United into fourth place, with a third successive Premier League win putting things into perspective.
They may be down the table by the end of Sunday, but they have made a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks, including wins over Sunderland and Liverpool.
And Man United are already looking to strengthen their squad in the next two transfer windows, with manager Amorim rumored to be keen on signing Polish legend Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona.
Experienced striker Lewandowski could be available on a free transfer next summer, but the Daily Mirror claim Man United co-owner Ratcliffe has “blocked a shock move” to sign the Poland international.

The report added: “His resignation will spark a mad scramble for signatures.” United manager Ruben Amorim is a long-time fan of the veteran striker. And he believes bringing Lewandowski to Old Trafford will have a positive impact on the team and help other players develop.
“However, Ratcliffe was clear that United would not repeat the mistakes of the past in indulging in the signing of players nearing the end of their careers.”
Manchester United are expected to look to improve the midfield area of the pitch in January, seen by many as a problem position, ahead of the winter season.
And the Daily Express reports that the Red Devils are currently “planning a surprise move” for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham, with Man United “could bring him to the Premier League in the January transfer window”.

Bellingham played well for Sunderland, who were promoted from the Championship last season, but he is yet to score in 11 appearances for Dortmund and has only started two Bundesliga games.
England legend Sir Geoff Hurst branded Bellingham’s father an “utter disgrace” after he clashed with Dortmund bosses over his father being substituted at half-time in a 3-3 draw with St Pauli earlier in the season.
The Express added: “United are monitoring the situation closely and could consider a loan move for the 20-year-old in January.”
“However, it remains unclear whether Bellingham will consider a move elsewhere or remain in Dortmund in the hope that the situation will improve.”
