Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be “forced” to sack Ruben Amorim over his performance despite insisting he is prepared to give him three years in charge.
There were rumors ahead of the game against Sunderland that Amorim could lose his job if Man United suffered a heavy defeat at Old Trafford before the international break.
However, Amorim secured his second win in three Premier League games with a 2-0 win over the Black Cats and retained his job at least until the game against Liverpool at Anfield on October 19.
In an interview this week, Ratcliffe insisted he intended to give Amorim three years to prove himself at Old Trafford, with Manchester United’s co-owner seeking consistency over chaos.
Manchester United have picked up just 37 points in 34 Premier League games under Amorim, and Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke predicts Ratcliffe will “have to be replaced” if he continues on the same path.
Mr O’Rourke explained: “Look, this is a results-oriented business, and if you don’t get results, that obviously puts pressure on Amorim.

“If results and performances do not improve and Manchester United are far down the table, the pressure will increase on them and changes may be forced.
“It’s huge public support and support that Ratcliffe has given Amorim a three-year grace period to prove himself at Man United.
“We know that Ratcliffe said he wanted to give himself three years to make things right and prove himself.
“If the results don’t improve by then, the pressure will only increase and that will usually result in a change of manager.
“The result will determine Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.”

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has suggested that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is the best man to sack Amorim if the Red Devils do so.
“I’ve been saying this for years, but I want Atletico Madrid manager Simeone to go there. I’d like to see him go there. I know his mates went to Arsenal (Andrea Berta, the Gunners’ sporting director who recently left Atletico),” Keane told Overlap newspaper.
“I think he’s just going to cause havoc, but it’s a good havoc. He’s going to jump up there. There’s no guarantees, but I just want to see his character, his track record.”
“People may think about the style of football, but he scored five goals against Real Madrid last weekend (5-2 win). He doesn’t like the team to concede too many goals or chances, but they can play a little and fight.”
“A few weeks ago at Liverpool (where Atlético lost 3-2 in the Champions League)… the team was not as great as a few years ago, but they still had a fighting spirit. He was on the sideline and was sent off that night. I want big personalities.”
Asked how long he plans to give Amorim, Keane quipped: “I’d definitely give him a chance though. One more week.”
