If Sir Jim Ratcliffe “had not appointed him” as Manchester United boss, Reuben Amorim might “may not even be in his job.”
A 2-1 defeat over Chelsea on Saturday eased pressure on Amorim at Old Trafford, but before the game, Sky Sports’ Pandit Jamie Redknap claimed that the Portuguese boss could have already been heard if the current head head of football hadn’t hired him.

Rednap said of Ratcliffe’s controversial 3-4-2-1 formation, “It won’t change, so we can always forget to talk about it. Now, it’s about how these players make it work. That’s a simple fact.
“I think Man Utd fans are a bit disappointed when you see what he did today. You probably won’t see Fernandez unleashing these No. 10 roles.
“If you’re Chelsea, do you know how you can get into (Patrick) Dorgu and (noussair) Mazrawi, if you’re thinking?
“And (Brian) Mbeumo and Amad (Diallo), yes, they have a pace. Sesko, he needs time, but for the manager, he has eight wins in 31 Premier League matches.
“If Jim Ratcliffe hadn’t appointed him, I think he’d be under a lot of pressure. He might not even be in his job. How bad was that for him?”

The Red Devils claimed a key victory after Robert Sanchez’s early red card gave him a mountain to climb Chelsea, but Rednap struggled to come up with something positive for United after the match.
He added: “It was really hard to say, and then you can play with 10 guys in five minutes and you’re playing against the side.
“So, did I really learn a lot about Manchester United today? No. But I guess that was a great result in what they had to do to win, and it was a great performance.
“They showed a bit of aggression at the end. They showed some discipline, a desire to score three points. Yes, absolutely fantastic.
“But as I say, it was a very unusual game, so I can’t say it was a turning point. So much was going on.
“Ten men, and the Chelsea manager, got him in his own way, made the alternative he made, he took off the two wingers, he gave them a real advantage, and Cole Palmer got injured because he had their favor today, but that was a really important three points.”
