Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid, with Liverpool reportedly considering signing an “elite defensive midfielder”.
Liverpool started the season well, winning all of their opening five Premier League games, as well as defeating Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
The Premier League champions didn’t look too convincing despite winning all their first seven games of the season, although they scored a few late goals to get them over the line.
Since a clearly unsustainable start to their first away defeat to Crystal Palace, the Reds have lost four consecutive games in all competitions, most recently losing 2-1 at home to Manchester United.

After three consecutive league defeats, Liverpool are now fourth in the Premier League, four points behind pacesetters Arsenal, whose only defeat of the 2025/26 season was against Anfield on August 31.
Liverpool will be hoping to break out of their slump when they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday and need big performances from several new players to gain confidence.
Florian Wirtz, who joined the Reds for £100m from Bayer Leverkusen, is yet to register a goal or assist in 10 competitive games, while Alexander Isak’s only goal came in a cup game against Southampton.
Wirtz has spent much of his time on the bench in recent weeks, with Football365 Mailbox contributors believing he should replace underperforming midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
And surprisingly, Mac Allister is rumored to be moving to Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.

A popular article in X, by a team of five elite reporters, states that Real Madrid are “moving towards a deal” for the Argentine international.
It is “not ruled out” that Madrid sign Mac Allister in January, but a summer move is “likely”.
Interestingly, it has been suggested that Liverpool would be open to selling the former Brighton midfielder as they have ‘valuation in mind’.
Additionally, manager Arne Slott’s side are “considering the signing of an elite defensive midfielder”. It is not clear whether he will replace Mac Allister.
Mac Allister has been criticized for his recent performances and could be replaced by Wertz or Jones when Liverpool play Frankfurt on Wednesday.
His performance against Manchester United was criticized, with the 26-year-old suffering a head injury within two minutes of the game.
