EXCLUSIVE: Director Ron Carlson has wrapped on The Bench, a new indie starring Rel Howery (Birdbox), Madeline Zima (Subservience), Diego Josef (The Ballad of Lefty Brown), Michael Horse (Twin Peaks) and Lin Shaye (Insidious).
Shot in Mesa, CO, the film explores the often-unheard stories of people living on the streets of Los Angeles. It was adapted from the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show by actor-writer Robert Galinsky. Executive producers included Terry Schnuck, Michael W. Riney, Quirsis V. Riney, Carlson, Galinsky and Gina Rugolo Judd.
Given that the hope is to make a direct impact with the film on the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness, Carlson’s August Heart Entertainment has partnered with United Way, Bombas and Blankets of Hope to support the local unhoused community in Mesa through the distribution of essential items, with plans to distribute essentials in the coming weeks to unhoused people in Los Angeles.
A Daytime Emmy nominee behind genre-bending indies like Dead Ant and All American Christmas Carol, Carlson is repped by Defining Artists and Emily Downs at Meyer & Downs.
Howery is repped by UTA, Fourth Wall Management and Cohen & Gardner. Zima is repped by Buchwald, Affirmative Entertainment, and Ziffren Brittenham. Josef is repped by Gersh, Inspire Entertainment, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman. Horse is repped by BRS/Gage Talent Agency. Shaye is repped by Buchwald and Rugolo Entertainment.
