New York (AP) – Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Richard Russo I Latest author welcomed to the inner circle of s Oprah Winfrey Book Club Picks.
Winfrey announced Tuesday that he had chosen Russo’s “Sigh of the Bridge,” a 2007 novel centered around a rural New York community. Russo set many of his works in small northeastern towns, including “Nobody’s Fool.” Paul Newman; The foundations of the Emmy-winning HBO series featuring 2002 Pulitzer winner Empire Falls and Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward.
Winfrey often chooses new books for her club, but sometimes she turned to older releases. Toni Morrison’s “Blust Eye” to John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.”
“Of course, it’s a great honor to be selected as Oprah’s Book Club,” Russo said in a statement. “But to be chosen for novels written 20 years ago? A book that introduces a whole new generation of readers to my work? How special is it?”
The recent conversation between Winfrey and Russo at Starbucks in Seattle can be seen on Winfrey’s YouTube channel and other outlets where podcasts are aired. Starbucks is the current partner of Winfrey’s Book Club, which was founded in 1996.
On Tuesday, Winfrey praised the statement praised “Bridge of Sighs” as “classic summer readings,” and was praised for “romance, unrequited love, lifelong friendship, and of course, an epic family drama.”
“If you’re a fan of Richard Russo, if you’re the first time you discover him, you’ll have the opportunity to read one of America’s most beloved authors,” she added.
