Manchester City and Spanish star Rodri helped Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi become the “best” player in the world.
Zubimendi has been well settled in the Premier League after joining Arsenal from Real Sociedad during the summer transfer period.
He helped the Spanish national team round out the international break with a 6-0 standout victory over Turkey in three nights after a 3-0 victory in Bulgaria.
The 26-year-old started both matches.
Zubimendi was impressed by Bulgaria and received passionate reviews in his home country, despite not being defensively tested.
Spanish outlet sports handed him eight out of 10 ratings.
“A midfielder who combines everything and always works well. His assistance to Oyalzabal to open up scoring is especially valuable, showing his ability to use his left foot as well. He held the midfield and created a lot of plays.”
El Deathmark provided the same rating as the Sports.
“He stayed in the starting lineup while waiting for Rodri to fit 100%, allowing Spain to open up a score with a great through-ball to Oyalzabal for 0-1. I’m always very confident in his passing.”
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo suggested that Zubimendi is the true leader on Luis de La Fuente’s side and could keep Rodri out of the first XI.
“From the pivot position, he is leading the team and everything shows that Rodri doesn’t make things easier when he returns to the starting lineup.”
He also received immense praise from his Spanish teammate Rodri. He believes Zubimendi could be the “best” player in the world, “if he’s not yet.”
“He’s an incredible player. He has the discipline and mentality that he can still be one of the best,” the Man City star said.
“I talked to him the other day and told him it was his time, I told him I was off the team’s keys.”

Zubimendi is suited to British football after leaving his boyhood club, and believes the biggest difference between La Liga and Premier League is the transition after the ball is handed over.
“The difference lies in the mentality after theft,” he sold EFE. “Here, as soon as you steal it, the mentality is to attack. In Spain, it’s probably about holding the ball and pinning it.
“They do everything well for you, they make bad passes for you, they always give themselves. We have a very clear idea from the manager, so I think it’s a great combination for everything to go well.”
Leaving Sociedad, Zubimendi added: “I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, which is my home, San Sebastian, and I wanted to experience everything that comes with a changing country and city.
“I also want to adapt to a new language, a new country, so they (female Spanish people, Quepa Alizabaraga, Christia Mosquera, David Raya, Mikel Merino, Mikel Arteta) make everything easier on my part, but I don’t need to put the facts of adaptation aside.”
