Fabrizio Romano revealed Andre Onana’s “feelings” about being removed from the Manchester United team to face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
Onana’s long-term future at Man UTD is questionable after his shape fell off the cliff during the 2024/25 campaign.
The experienced goalkeeper had a decent debut season after replacing David De Gere, but his performance declined dramatically as he was criticised for his poor form.
This has encouraged speculation linking Man UTD with potential alternatives, but has yet to sign a new goalkeeper in this transfer window.
Alter Bayindir scored the goal in the opening game goal of Man UTD for the 2025/26 Premier League season on Sunday as Onana missed part of the preseason due to an injury, causing Red Devils to be beaten 1-0.

Initially, Onana’s absence was assumed to be due to his injury condition, but he claimed he had “recovered” before the match, but was assumed to be due to his injury condition.
“It’s an option. I’ll try to choose the best player in each game. Next week is a different life and this is how I chose this week,” said Amorim, who omitted Onana and Rasmus Hoilund for the Arsenal match.
When pushed further about Onana’s absence, he added: “No, he’s not injured. He’s recovered… but the other players did well during the preseason, so I have to find a balance.”
Nevertheless, Romano argues that Onana’s “feeling” was removed from United’s team as HS “is not yet in 100% form.”
“After the match, Reuben Amorim said they didn’t drop the onana. At the same time, the feeling of those close to the onana is that Onana is still recovering from the injury and not yet in 100% form,” Romano told her YouTube channel.
“And he accepted the decision, he doesn’t think it has anything to do with the transfer, and because Onana has not been involved in active consultations with another club.
“At the start of the window I was interested in the Saudi Arabia. He accepted Amorim’s decision, but next week is another story.”

Romano has also commented on two potential alternatives to Onana, signing a deal with one “completely quiet.”
“The last bid they made was Emi Martinez’s loan proposal in July. At this point, the situation has been completely quiet,” Romano added.
“The goalkeeper they still like and keeps eye on is Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Ranmen, who has been keeping an eye on him for a long time.
“If Man UTD decides to invest in goalkeepers between now and the end of the window, Lammens is their favorite goalkeeper.
“They know what Donnaruma is in the situation, but Manchester City is undergoing concrete consultations to sign him. There’s nothing imminent yet.”
