Comedian Roy Wood Jr. Will host the 85th Peabody Awards, set for June 1 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The Peabodys, the program based at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, honors content from emerging voices that reflects the pressing social issues of the day.
This is Wood’s first time hosting the awards and second consecutive year the awards ceremony will be held in Southern California.
Wood is host of CNN’s comedic panel show Have I Got News for You. He also recently released his fourth stand-up comedy special Lonely Flowers on Hulu. Wood first gained fame as a correspondent on the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Comedy Central series The Daily Show, and recently headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The Peabody Awards honors stories that defend public interest, encourage empathy and expand our understanding of the world, chosen each year by a Board of Jurors through unanimous vote. Awards will be given in categories including entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth, immersive and interactive media, and public service programming.
“No higher honor than to be in the room as we celebrate some of our generation’s best storytellers and reIlect upon the ways in which we can all contribute to bettering the times we are in,” said Wood. “I am also there because there is a free dinner…. at least I’m assuming there is dinner… there better be some damn food, that’s all I know.”
Last year’s winners included The Bear, Fellow Travelers, The Last of Us, Jury Duty, Reality, Somebody Somewhere, Reservation Dogs, Bluey, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and 20 Days in Mariupol.
Nominees for the 2025 Peabody Awards will be announced on April 15 and 17, with winners announced on May 1.
