After making his Emily in Paris debut in Season 4, don’t expect to see Rupert Everett back in the City of Love next season.
The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently recalled the “tragedy” of not being asked back to reprise his role as Italian fashion designer Giorgio Barbieri in the Netflix series after he played the role in the Season 4 episode ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’.
“For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it,” he told Vanity Fair.
“I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak,’” continued Everett. “I waited for them to call me—but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me. Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you—but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t know why.”
Contrary to Everett’s claim, a source close to the production told Vanity Fair that he was only hired as a guest star and his character had reached a natural conclusion.

After Netflix renewed Emily in Paris for Season 5 last September, series creator Darren Star gave Deadline an update on the upcoming episodes.
“I think we’ve got a really terrific season coming up,” he said last month. “We filmed in Rome for the first four weeks, and that was an exciting experience to be there. Now we’re back in Paris, Emily is definitely back in Paris.”
