Manchester United are set to beat Newcastle to another striker after Reuben Amorim’s team won the race last week in Benjamin Sesco.
Sesko was given a straight choice between the two and chose United despite last year’s worst Premier League finish and Newcastle’s Champions League football offer.
Magpies are also keen on Brian Mbeumo, who moved from Brentford to Old Trafford in the early summer, and could now be beaten by the Red Devils by free agent Dominique Calvert Lewin.
Ben Jacobs revealed his interest from Calvert Lewin last month, saying, “Newcastle is interested in Dominique Calvert Lewin, but remains silent to meet his criteria. At the moment, nothing is going on and no new offers have been offered to Calvert-Lewin so far. #NUFC is still evaluating some options after missing Joao Pedro, and Callum Wilson’s learning will not be extended.
“The move only progresses if Calvert-Lewin reduces the conditions 12 months before #NUFC made a specific offer, and even so, Newcastle is somewhat wary of Calvert Lewin’s injury record.
Around the same time in early July, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Calvert Lewin’s Man UTD’s interests.
“Man United has not begun negotiations as Calvert Lewin’s new striker. Players have been offered as a free transfer opportunity, a cheap opportunity for players who have experience, know the league and are useful for any club.

The website claims that Newcastle is still an option and can add Man Utd’s interest. “The new United boss has a strong spinning setup and is keen to see the former Everton man as a capable third or fourth choice striker who can provide valuable cover in a long season.”
And the Sun now claims that Calvert Lewin “want to abandon his national team and trade at Manchester United,” and chooses to “negotiate his own transfer while he is looking for a new club.”
