Couture, the latest feature from French filmmaker Alice Winocour, which stars Angelina Jolie, will screen in Competition at this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival.
Couture was added to the San Sebastian lineup this morning alongside four other titles. Among that group was Agnieszka Holland’s latest film, Franz, a co-production of the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland that narrates the life of the writer Franz Kafka from his birth to his death.
Couture is a French-American co-production. The film also stars Louis Garrel and is set in the fashion world. The film stars Jolie as an American filmmaker who arrives in Paris for Fashion Week on a life-and-death journey, facing challenges and self-discovery. The film will arrive in San Sebastian following a bow at TIFF.
Elsewhere, Argentine filmmaker Milagros Mumenthaler (Córdoba, 1977) will debut in the San Sebastián competition with her third feature, The Currents, a Swiss-Argentine co-production starring Isabel Aimé González Sola in the role of a woman confronting a past she thought she had left behind.
Arnaud Desplechin (Roubaix, 1960) will participate for the first time in the Official Selection with Two Pianos, in which a virtuoso pianist returns to Lyon, his hometown, after a long absence to experience a story of impossible love. The film’s cast includes François Civil, Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Charlotte Rampling, and Hippolyte Girardot.
Filmmakers Kentaro Hirase and Yutaro Seki, who co-directed Miyamatsu to Yamashita / Roleless (New Directors, 2022) with Masahiko Sato, will compete in the Official Selection with their second feature film, the Japanese production SAI / SAI: disaster.
These titles join the four previously announced Spanish productions that will also compete in the Official Selection: Maspalomas, by Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi, Good Valley Stories by José Luis Guerin, Los Tigres, by Alberto Rodríguez, and Sundays by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa.
San Sebastian runs from September 19 to 27.
