It’s an Owens family reunion as production begins on Practical Magic 2, more than 25 years after the original 1998 movie.
In a new behind-the-scenes video from the set of the highly-anticipated sequel, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprised their roles as witchy sisters Sally and Gillian Owens while filming a scene.
“The witches are back,” Kidman captioned the clip on Instagram. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”
“Turns out we have a lot of work to do,” Bullock tells Kidman as they share a hug in a cemetery, in character as the Owens sisters.
After Deadline reported last June that Bullock and Kidman were in negotiations to return for a sequel to the Griffin Dunne-helmed Warner Bros. adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s ’95 novel, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing also signed on to reprise their roles Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny.
New additions include Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod and Joey King as one of Sally’s daughters.
Susanne Bier will direct the film from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett. Goldsman was a co-writer on the original film. Warner Bros. recently set a Sept. 18, 2026 release date for the followup.
