Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson would be a “really good signing” for Ruben Amorim’s side.
The Red Devils spent more than £200m in the summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesco, Diego Leon and Senne Lamence.
Despite a strong summer overall in the transfer market, many supporters and former players believed Man United made a huge oversight by failing to sign a new midfielder in the summer.
Manchester United have made inquiries and attempted to sign two midfielders: Brighton’s Carlos Baleva and Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on Monday that Baleva is still high on his list, but also revealed that the Italian has a long list of targets.
Man United have been heavily linked with a move for Nottingham Forest and England star Anderson, attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Casemiro is likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer and Scholes believes Anderson would be a great replacement for the Brazilian legend.
Scholes said of Casemiro on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast:
“I think you have to take his age into consideration and he will probably move once his contract is up.”
Scholes’ former Manchester United teammate Nicky Butt added: “Yeah, that makes sense to me.”
When asked if Anderson would be a good fit at Old Trafford, Scholes replied: “Yes. “Elliott Anderson is a really good player.
“Look, I think they need a little more than Anderson to get to where they want to be and challenge. But no, I think he’s a really good player.

“When he was at Newcastle, I thought he was a really good player. I thought he was more of an attacking midfielder, but I didn’t see him in this role, playing as a number six for England.”
“But he looks like a really good player, I think he’s got plenty of athletic ability, and I certainly think he’ll be a really good contract, but we’ll see.”
Butt added of Anderson: “He’s a good player. I think that’s what the board and the manager want in a player.”
“That’s not enough to get Manchester United where we want to be.
“But is he better than the players they have now? That’s always the way it should be, you should always get better players than the players in the building.”
“Looking at what he’s doing now, to me he looks like a potentially top, top player.”
The Daily Telegraph has revealed that there is “no chance” that Nottingham Forest will allow Anderson to be sold in the January transfer window.
The England international is understood to be “on track to become the next £100m-plus English player and Nottingham Forest are prepared to take a tough stance on his future.”
The report added: “Forest’s valuation will be determined by owner Evangelos Marinakis and the club is expected to request a market value figure.”
“With potential interest from European Champions League clubs, Anderson’s price could rise to over £100m after installments.”
