The Serie A giants’ manager has reportedly hatched an “interesting idea” to sign the Manchester United attacker, who is said to be currently “deeply frustrated”.
United’s attack last season left a lot to be desired. No player has scored more than 10 goals in the Premier League, with central strikers Rasmus Heilund and Joshua Zirkzee scoring four and three goals respectively, despite both playing less than 30 games.
Over the summer, it was reported that United were considering letting Zirksee go, but were considering letting Hoylund go. That was despite the former wanting to remain at United.
True, he was transferred to Naples, but although Zirksee survived, things took an unexpected turn.
The Dutchman has only played 82 minutes in all competitions this season, with new signing Benjamin Sesco preferring to play further down the line these days, while Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount have also been given minutes.
Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Roma’s Dan Friedkin and Gian Piero Gasperini came up with the “interesting idea” of bringing Zirksee on loan as he struggled to find playing time.
According to reports, the Dutchman has recently been left out of the Dutch side and “wants to leave” to avoid the risk of missing out on the World Cup.
According to the newspaper, West Ham and Everton are also interested in signing Zirkzee in the Premier League.

Recent reports have suggested that Serie A clubs Inter Milan, Juventus and Como are eyeing the United player, with the Hammers also being named.
This also suggests that Zirkzee is not satisfied with his role at United. In fact, he is said to be “deeply frustrated” with his current role, and a move in January will be crucial if he is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Ronald Koeman’s recent comments are a stark reminder of that.
“I don’t think he’s good enough at the moment, so he’s not included in the preliminary selection,” the Dutch national team coach said.
“Scanning, especially when turning or passing, often goes wrong. Yes, in principle form and fitness always take the lead, but that is not always possible.
“We have a lot of central defenders and midfielders, but up front we are a little limited.
“Nonetheless, I still think he has to earn the selection and I don’t think he deserves it right now, but it could happen again at another time.”
