Alan Shearer has criticized Manchester United star Jadon Sancho after his “humiliating” start to his loan spell at Aston Villa, telling him to “get his attitude straight”.
Sancho joined Man United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021, but only hit his best when he returned to the Bundesliga on loan, with his spells at Manchester United last season, Chelsea on loan and Aston Villa this season less than his peak.

He has made just five appearances since joining Villa in the summer, and was embarrassing when he came on as a substitute in the 29th minute in last weekend’s win over Manchester City.
Asked about the winger’s disappointing form, Shearer said: “I don’t know what’s going on with Jadon Sancho in terms of training and life, but he’s got an opportunity at Villa now. If it doesn’t work out here, people will look back and say ‘wait, you had so many chances’.” You can only have so much.
“I think it’s humiliating to be subbed in and then left out again. Things haven’t worked out for him yet, but there’s only one way around it and that’s hard work.”
“Keep your head down, have the right attitude, and things will get better.”
Aston Villa travel to Anfield on Saturday night. Shearer is backing Unai Emery’s side to push Liverpool into another crisis, but explained why he would “not be surprised” if the hosts won.
“You have one team in terrible form, losing six of their last seven games, and the other team in very good form, winning six of their last seven. There are arguments on both sides. It’s a really big game, especially the way Liverpool lost in midweek,” Shearer added.
“Liverpool can’t afford another defeat and if that happens it would really be a wake-up call. I don’t know what to expect from Liverpool. There’s a part of me that thinks they can’t keep going like this because they have that much quality.

“But I don’t like what I’m seeing at Liverpool right now. They’re not competing, they’re all over the place. I think Villa might take advantage of the pressure that Liverpool are under.”
“When you gamble in the middle of the week, the last thing you want is to get beaten down and that will permeate through the football club and there will be an expectation that they will bounce back.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they do it, but given the way they play football, how they work sometimes and the way they’re doing, I’d choose Villa.”
