Liverpool boss Arne Slot hit one of his players to compete against Crystal Palace, but another “didn’t know what he was doing.”
The Reds took the first defeat of their 2025/26 campaign on Saturday afternoon, losing 2-1 at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. This opens the door for Arsenal to fill the gap between the Premier League leaders on Sunday.
This was a very effective victory for the palace. The palace could have easily advanced two or three goals by the time of the break.
Liverpool improved after the interval and appeared to have stolen points through Federico Chiesa equalizer.
Liverpool’s defenses are everywhere against the palace, with Michael Owen claiming Ibrahima Connate “not knowing what he was doing.”
“I don’t know if it’s tired, but they gave a fair few players a break mid-week with the Carabao Cup. They weren’t the usual ones. We’re early in the season.

“I mean, Konate didn’t know what he was doing in the first half, and I can’t say it was due to rust or fatigue.
“One or two of those performances from him this season are very similar.
“I don’t use that excuse and give Crystal Palace praise, they’re the right team. They beat Liverpool with the Community Shield, it wasn’t a fluke.
Meanwhile, Slots chose the Liverpool star alone for post-match criticism. His comments could have directed summer comments signed to goal-scoring Jeremy Frimon from Summer Eddie Nketier.

Slot states:
“One of our players was exhausted because he wanted to counterattack.
“At that moment, one player was bothered me too offensively, winning a winner, leading us to lose the game.”
He added: “It was a disappointing first half and a disappointing end to the game. Credit to the Palace – Community Shield, not the first time we’ve lost to them.
“The second half was far better than us. Many teams couldn’t do it here. It took a while to score goals, and it’s just as disappointing as the first half to acknowledge another set piece goal.
